On September 24, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 324 5Color children’s bicycle helmet and pads sets (CPSC release 26-789). The size-small pink helmets violate the mandatory federal safety standard for bicycle helmets and can fail to protect a child in a crash, posing a risk of serious injury or death from head injury.
Which helmets are included in the 5Color children’s bicycle helmet recall
The recall covers 5Color helmet and pads sets sold with knee and elbow pads. Only the size-small helmets are affected. They are pink, fit a head circumference of about 18 to 22 inches, and have black padding, black straps, and a black fit-adjusting knob at the back. The label inside the helmet lists Model YD-001, Lot/Ref YD-260320, and Date 2026/03/20, and the same information appears on the packaging. The knee and elbow pads sold in the set are not part of the recall. The sets were sold on Amazon in May 2026 for between $25 and $26. No incidents or injuries have been reported.
Why they were recalled
According to the CPSC, the helmets do not comply with the federal standard’s requirements for impact attenuation, retention system strength, positional stability, labeling, and certification. A helmet that cannot absorb impact or stay in place during a crash offers little protection, even if the shell looks sturdy. Parents should treat any helmet in this recall as unsafe to use.
What to do in the 5Color children’s bicycle helmet recall
Stop using the helmet immediately. Contact 5Color for a refund. The company asks owners to cut the straps so the helmet cannot be used again and to email a photo of the helmet. Do not keep using it while waiting for the refund.
